Welcome to Kim Irwin Art Therapy! Kim is a Provisionally Registered Art Therapist practicing under the supervision of Dr. Kathy Platzman and Nancy Morales, ATR-BC. She provides art therapy through a DIR/Floortime-informed lens, supporting neurodivergent individuals and their families through creative, relationship-based interventions. Kim has a special interest in working with siblings of individuals with high support needs, helping them explore their experiences, build connections, and develop resilience.
Individual art therapy provides a supportive, one-on-one space for clients to explore emotions, experiences, and challenges through creative expression. Sessions are tailored to each person’s developmental needs and interests, using art-making, sensory materials, and relationship-based approaches to support regulation, insight, and growth. This work allows clients to safely express what may be difficult to put into words while building coping skills and self-understanding.
Clay Field Therapy is a sensory-based approach that uses clay and water to promote regulation, self-expression, and emotional processing. The tactile experience can support body awareness, resilience, and growth without relying heavily on verbal communication.
Sibling group therapy offers a safe and supportive environment for siblings of individuals with disabilities, chronic illness, or mental health needs to connect with peers who share similar experiences. Through art-making, play, and discussion, participants can explore their feelings, build identity, and develop coping strategies. The group emphasizes connection, validation, and self-expression, helping siblings feel seen, understood, and less alone in their experiences.
Art therapy uses the creative process to support emotional expression, self-discovery, and personal growth. Through art-making, clients can explore thoughts and feelings, develop coping skills, and build confidence in a supportive environment.
DIR/Floortime is a relationship-based approach that focuses on each person's unique developmental profile, sensory needs, strengths, and interests. By following the client's lead and building meaningful connections, therapy supports emotional, social, and developmental growth.
Siblings of individuals with disabilities, chronic illnesses, developmental differences, or mental health conditions often have unique experiences that deserve attention and support. Art therapy provides a creative space to express emotions, build resilience, strengthen identity, and process the challenges and joys of being a sibling. Kim has completed Sibshops Facilitator Training through the Sibling Support Project and has a special interest in supporting siblings and their families.
